BACKGROUND
The Global Cycling Network (GCN) is the world’s largest platform dedicated to cycling as a sport, with more than 2 million subscribers. It brings together a global community united by a love for cycling. GCN wanted to evolve from a free YouTube channel to a premium subscription business with a full-featured OTT platform. Robosoft partnered with GCN to design and build a multi-platform streaming experience that could power live races, on-demand content, and a scalable subscription business.
THE CHALLENGES
Addressing the
critical gaps
GCN needed to evolve beyond YouTube into a unified platform combining live racing, on-demand content, editorial, stats, and community features, all in one seamless experience.
Converting a free audience into paying subscribers required a compelling Race Pass model, a frictionless purchase journey, and a premium experience that justified the shift.
Streaming global professional cycling live and uninterrupted demanded a resilient infrastructure capable of handling concurrent audiences during high-stakes race moments.
Retention required more than passive viewing. The platform needed live polls, quizzes, real-time data, and social features to deepen fan participation.
Delivering a high-quality experience across Android, iOS, and web in 59 countries and 6 languages required disciplined engineering and localization at scale.
A controlled rollout strategy was essential to gather user feedback, refine features, and scale the platform responsibly during early adoption.
