Background :
LaundryMate is a tech-driven, customer-focused, sustainability conscious, end-to-end laundry service launched in the Bangalore, India in 2022. Its mission is to give people the time to do the things they love, and never having to worry about the chore of laundry. The promise manifested in being an all-in-one service: home pickup, custom wash or dry cleaning, iron, fold and deliver it back in 24 hours.
The challenge:
We were tasked with crafting digital solutions for the entire laundry management process – not just a consumer facing mobile app. We were tasked with creating three platforms: Consumers, Customer Experience Associates and the Operations Team. The solutions were to intended to provide an intelligent, seamless, integrated solution for the entire ecosystem - all within 3-4 months.

Use of QR Codes & barcodes to enable seamless operations:

When a Customer Experience Associate reaches the customer location, each customer is provided a QR Code induced bag to fill with laundry items for different wash orders.

Each item is then photographed and provided with an individual barcode to keep count in the database. It creates an inventory management system where each item by the customer is tagged by the type of service requested and stored in the bag. The bag, in this sense, becomes an in-process inventory store.

The bag with QR Code from the staging area goes into a van. The van scans individual bags and takes them to their respective hubs.

Hubs will again scan the QR Codes of the bags and give them to the delivery partners. The delivery partners will now give the scanned bags to the respective end user.

Therefore, we can see that the entire process of controlling the inventory is crucial and was automated completely with QR Codes and barcodes.

Payments & Subscriptions:
The consumer platform enable easy online payments at the time of scheduling pickup or during the actual pickup. Integrations with UPI (Unified Payments Interface - an instant payment system developed by National Payments Corporation of India) and other popular payment modes made the process smooth.

The platform we created also enabled a 4-tier subscription plan that provides several benefits to users such as pre-scheduled pickups and cashback offers.

We delivered a platform for the entire ecosystem enabling the business to scale to multiple cities and countries. The platform is also geared to handle increased volumes as they begin servicing both B2C and B2B customers (such as hotel chains)

A key goal of LaundryMate is to reduce the water consumed in our laundry process (with every load we wash at our homes in a washing machine, we use on an average of 70 litres of water). Our end-to-end business platform plays a key role in sustainability and a small step towards doing good for the planet.

200+ internal users used the platform at launch serving one Central Processing Unit and 4 hubs. The platforms have an uptime of 99% and the consumer app has an average rating of 4.3 on the Play Store.
