RR Donnelley is a Fortune 500 company offering commercial printing, business communications services, and marketing solutions. Founded in 1864, RR Donnelley has a rich history and great reputation as the world’s largest commercial printing supplier. It has been a leading global printing partner of Apple, having printed over 75 million customized photo books, calendars, and cards through Apple Photos - the native app on the Mac platform.
At Robosoft, our first client was Apple, way back in 1996. Since then, we have earned our spurs crafting several prestigious projects on the Mac and iOS platforms. So, it was familiar ground for us as we partnered with RRD to create the Motif app - a photo book on iOS and Mac platforms. Our partnership entailed product advisory, design and development.
Not just photos but stories
The Motif app lets users capture their favorite moments and turn them into beautiful keepsakes. Motif’s intuitive technology automatically analyzes the quality of each photo and recommends the best images to design a photo book, where users can select from over 80 professionally designed layouts.
Robosoft and RRD
Our partnership with RRD started with the development and maintenance of Motif app for iPhone and iPad. Within two years, we were entrusted with the development of the Motif app for the Mac platform too. The first version of the Motif app was launched in 2018.
After a year, our Advisory team worked with the client in conducting a Usability Testing workshop. The insights and recommendations from the workshop were used to launch the upgraded version of the app with an enhanced user experience.

Identify and define key user journeys that the users will have to complete.
Test the designs with end-users, to understand the level of product usability.
Understand the challenges and roadblocks that the users encounter while trying to complete the defined tasks on the app.
